New Mexico State University

Overview

The Memorial Middle School Agricultural Science Center is located in Las Vegas, New Mexico on the Memorial Middle School campus. The campus occupies 34.4 acres of former agricultural land in the Gallinas river valley, with approximately five acres dedicated to a greenhouse, field plots, science lab, and an outdoor learning landscape and classroom. The center was founded in 2005 through a special legislative appropriation and is administered through the College of Agriculture and Home Economics. The center is engaged in earth and life science research and experiments with students, the development of greenhouse and educational curriculum for teachers throughout New Mexico and the country, and community outreach addressing small-scale agricultural resource constraints. Gardens and demonstration plots are in the planning phase that will be used to evaluate the potential of specialty crops and resource conservation. Garden and demonstration plots will be open to the public.
